#38 Chips

March 17, 2017
These are chips, as enjoyed and handled by the habitants of the Slums.

Transcript

The third and last form of currency in Buffet is known as chips. They are square pieces of worthless rubbish used in the Slums.

You need about a hundred to exchange them for one shiner. Only merchants bother to do this.

Wealth accumulation in the Slums is an impossibility. If you own more than you should, people will know.
It is very rude to own more than you should.

Gheralf

Gheralf says:

For something so worthless, the chips sure are big. Merchants who stop by the Slums enter the Outer City with huge bags, and trade those in for a few shiners.

How do they manage without getting themselves in trouble? I always assumed they have bodyguards, but I have seen a few enter through the gates without any. I guess the hobos only care about it when other hobos have too much money.

Vayandil

Vayandil says:

No one knows what the chips are made of. They are very light and cheap-feeling, yet they can survive through ages without suffering considerable damage. Unless you throw them in fire, where they first melt and then burn into a black smoke.
